The Yamazaki-Nagai Laboratory of Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics often embarks on research cruises to conduct observations and collect data.
The a-frame on JAMSTEC'S Kaiyo as the ship nears the Kuroshio Current
One of the main research focuses of the Laboratory of Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics is the study of ocean front. Many of the observations to gather ocean front data are conducted at the Kuroshio Current, a strong ocean current that flows past Japan.
A view across Lake Biwa
The lab has been doing observations at Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, since 2001. Many of these observations were in cooperation with LBERI (Lake Biwa Environmental Research Institute) to gather data about internal waves and vertical circulation in the lake.
The scenery around Oshima
The Laboratory of Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics often conducts observations around Oshima, a volcanic island which is part of the Izu Islands, Japan.
The snow-covered scenery around Otsuchi Bay
Otsuchi Bay, Iwate Prefecture, Japan is the site of many of the lab's observations. In addition to providing an opportunity to test YODA Profiler, these observations have yielded data about the fine features of internal waves propagating along slopes.
