Kuroshio Current Observations

One of the main research focuses of the Laboratory of Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics is the study of ocean front. Many of the observations to gather ocean front data are conducted at the Kuroshio Current, a strong ocean current that flows past Japan.

Lake Biwa Observations

The lab has been doing observations at Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, since 2001. Many of these observations were in cooperation with LBERIOpens in new window (Lake Biwa Environmental Research Institute) to gather data about internal waves and vertical circulation in the lake.

Otsuchi Bay Observations

OtsuchiThe snow-covered scenery around Otsuchi Bay

Otsuchi Bay, Iwate Prefecture, Japan is the site of many of the lab's observations. In addition to providing an opportunity to test YODA Profiler, these observations have yielded data about the fine features of internal waves propagating along slopes.
