Analysis of Biofouling Influence on Hull and Propeller Based on Observed Ship Data


■ Overview
In this study, focusing on a specification of Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP), it is assumed that shaft power at neutral blade angle of a CPP is the required power to keep its constant speed. By analyzing this power, this study seeks to reveal the energy efficiency on actual CPP and the performance degradation due to a bio-fouling on the surface of a CPP.

I belong to the Power Electronics laboratory, but my research has little to do with Electricity.
My hobbies are playing the piano and accordion, and cameras(especially film cameras).

Research and development of energy consumption simulation for large vessels



■ Overview
We have developed a simulation to estimate energy consumption on the propulsion system and the electric system.
It is expected that various power systems can be compared in the same condition by using our simulation.

Effects of using a battery system for the onboard AC electric system to the fuel consumption of the generator


■ Overview
I am studying the effectiveness of installing a battery system in the AC power system of a ship to reduce the fuel consumption of generators. We have developed our own simulations and fed them with measured data on the load factor of onboard generators to estimate and discuss the effects on fuel consumption depending on whether or not a battery system is installed and how it is operated.

I am Norichika Nagayama, a senior in the Engine System Engineering Course, Department of Marine Electronics and Mechanical Engineering. I was interested in the wide range of research topics and applied to this laboratory. I also belong to the American football team of my alma mater (high school) as a student coach as part of my extracurricular activities. I am looking forward to working with you.

An Induction Heating System based on a Dual-Parallel High-Frequency Cycloconverter


■ Overview
A method that connecting two circuits in parallel to cancel a ripple is well known. In this research, I consider applying the method to a power converter of induction heating systems.

Wireless power transfer system for underwater vehicles


■ Overview
Considering power transfer when a resonance capacitor is connected in series to the power transmission coil and a resonance capacitor is connected in parallel to the power receiving coil using wireless power transfer system that supplies power without electrical contacts using the electromagnetic induction of coils.

Analysis of voyage data of fishing vessels to determine optimal operating points



■ Overview
Analyze voyage data of fishing vessels and examine the operation points of HUMP and HOLLOW, where wave-making resistance becomes large and small, respectively. Then, we will propose more efficient operation points with less resistance to the operators of fishing vessels.

Based on the operational data of the Shioji Maru, a vessel newly built by the university last year, the project will check the differences from the results of the pre-calculated simulation, discover the issues the new Shioji Maru has, and compare its performance with that of its predecessor.
