We are conducting reserch on small boats,which are often fishing ships.Currently,we are investigating the impact of hull fouling on fuel consumption.

M2 Norichika Nagayama

■ Research themes
Study and optimization of energy storage system for saving fuel consumption of ship's generators by self-made simulation using actual ship data

■ Overview
My research focuses on whether the installation of an energy storage system using lithium-ion batteries in a ship's AC power system is effective in reducing the fuel consumption of the ship's generators. We are also studying what are the optimal power output and capacity of the energy storage system. Based on data measured on actual vessels, I have created our own simulation to reproduce the energy flow of the ship's power system.

My name is Norichika Nagayama, Second-years student in the Master's Course in Marine System Engineering. After graduating from the Department of Marine Electronics and Mechanical Engineering, I went on to Advanced Onboard Training Course for Mercantile Marine(the Engineering Course) and entered graduate school in October 2022. In extracurricular activities, I am a member of the American football team at my alma mater (high school) as a student coach and also I returned to the Adalt American football as a player for the first time in 6 years. I look forward to working with you.

A Three-Phase AC Input Induction Heating System with AC-AC Direct Converters


■ Overview
Induction heating enables rapid heating with high efficiency,but it is difficult to heat a flat plate evenly and uniformly.This reserch focuses on this heating unevenness and aims to improve it by using multiple heating coils.

Wireless power transfer is a technologuy that uses electromagneticinduction of coils to supply power without electrical contact.This reserch considers power transmission characteristics of a wireless power transfer(WPT) system,which applies multiple receivers for small ships.

Frequency converters are required when ships use shore powere in eastern Japan,but we are verifying whether it is possible to use shore power without using an expensive frequency converter.

M1 Seiya KONDO

Development of a method to identify operating characteristics that vary dependin on conditions in small ships at sea.

■ Overview
A ship's ruel consumption increases as the ship's speed increases.However,how the operating characteristics increase depends on conditions such as the state of the ship's fouling,weather,and sea conditions.In this reserch,we actually conduct navigation experiments,measure and analyze various navigation data.The goal is to develop a method to identify the operating characteristics of a ship at that moment by performing specific operations.

After completing the Advanced onboard Training Course,I entered graduate course,I would like to use the knowledge I have learned through Advanced onboard Training course to continue my reserch!Even now that I am graduate student and belong to the Kendo club,I still practice about three time a week!My goal is to get promoted to 4th Dan while I'm in school.

Study for the optimal operating point for reducing fuel consumption in small ships.

■ Overview
Navigation data obtained from actually operating small ship will be analyzed,characteristics will be investigated,and optimal operating points will be considered.The goal is to suggest optinmal operating points tooperators in real time.

I trasferred from Toba National Clooege of Technology in Mie Prefecture.My hobby is fishing,and I wanted to utilize the fishing skills I've cultivated in Toba's rich wathers in Tokyo,so I've tried the river next to my university many times,but I've never caught a fish.I want to catch a fish before I graduate.Thank you.
